36 weeks with baby #3!

I am getting so close to my due date, I can practically smell the sweetest of our newest baby :) A few days ago we celebrated 36 weeks pregnant with our third, and I’m just feeling so giddy to hold our baby in my arms. I can’t quite imagine what it’ll be like to have three babes three years old and under, but we’ll figure it out ;) Do you have any tips? Since moving back to Detroit we’ve seen our families a whole lot more often — pretty much weekly! They’re now only a few hours drive away (instead of a few hours of flight), and so they’ve been able to be more a part of this pregnancy. My dad is a master baby swaddler, and having him and my mom come visit (whenever they want! and, even last minute!) is going to be so great.

I’ve been reading through a new book, The Lifegiving Home (creating a place of belonging & becoming), and it’s giving me all sorts of new perspectives on creating a nurturing home. Different ways to speak encouragement and love to our children, routines and rituals, it’s been a really warm read.

Our neighborhood is going to see a lot of our stroller. You know I’ll be out there with the kids and Bauer, something living in Los Angeles has really prepared me for! Except now we don’t need to pack up for multiple hours away, although that would be so fun. Having a fenced in back yard to play in has been such a treat, too. Even when the weather has a little bit of a chill, we know how to bundle up with an extra layer and enjoy the fresh air for twenty minutes or so.

Zack put together the baby cradle and put it next to my side of the bed. The main floor of our house is hardwood, and I was thinking recently how squeaky the floors can be and whether our third baby will be sensitive to sounds, but then I remembered he or she is already used to the squeaky floors and dog barks and kid laughs and song singing. I have nothing to worry about, right? :)

We had three under three at one time and I found that our son was a more relaxed baby, because we were more relaxed. He would sleep through any noise, which was a blessing with two little squealing sisters. : ) The most important thing for me, was to allow myself lots of grace. I didn’t venture out with all three by myself till Duncan was a few months old; and even then it was just a twenty minute drive to my Mom’s house. By the time he was four months old, I could handle grocery shopping alone with our three easily. Then we added a fourth and it all changed again. : ) I have to say that all the other Moms with children close together were right. It’s wonderful having all four of our children so close in age as they get older! They each have a best friend and while there were many times when we had three in diapers that I didn’t think we’d survive, we did and I wouldn’t have wanted to do it any other way. This year our four will be twelve, eleven, ten, and eight. We homeschool and I honestly love being with them every single day watching them learn and grow…even on the hard preteen emotional days.
I’m so happy that you’re closer to family now! That really does make all the difference.

I had three under three a few years ago, and I’ll have my second set of three under three in a few months! If course, this time it’s totally different, since I have the three bigger kids to help me! :) I actually found the transition to three easier than two, so hopefully that will be the case for you! Like someone else said, go easy on yourself, plan on staying home a lot for the first while, and just know that a lot of it will probably go by in a blur! You seem like you do a great job of just enjoying your babies, so keep doing that, and you’ll be fine! :)

I remember I made it a point to never “be quiet” with my two littles and being pregnant with the 3rd. That way when baby was born, I didn’t have a find him a quiet corner to sleep in—he could sleep through anything!!

Also, I survived 3 littles by wearing #3 a LOT! I had a moby type wrap for the beginning days and a ergo for the bigger days. My 3rd (now 2) still will grab my ergo from the hook and ask for a ride. By this age, the other two were long done. <3

    You so got this, mama!

    xo,

“We are preparing to wind down for the school ye “We are preparing to wind down for the school year with just a few more weeks of intentional table lessons. We will then transition to a lighter learning schedule during the summer months. Today I am grateful for the books and resources I’ve read that have helped keep me in my own lane. I’m feeling like a tired lady. But sunshine & fresh air are good companions to keep around.

How about a little Wednesday night introduction? 😘Social media sure has changed over the years and we don’t always SEE who we’re following or remember WHY we’re following certain accounts.

So, hello! As you can gather, my name is Maggie ;)

I started writing online (almost 13 years ago) to share the handmade products I was sewing. My shop was called Gussy Sews. ✂️👛I love the community that has grown from sewing & sharing online.

Let’s FFW to today: Zack and I live in Michigan and have four young children (2 boys & 2 girls). I slowly left the handmade industry and walked right into homemaking, homeschooling, and encouraging women through writing. 💕📝

Motherhood has been very hard on me. (And not just because of how close in age our four children are.) It’s been hard for me because I fought for years to accept that *it’s supposed to be hard*.

I mean, how do you effectively teach another person to know and love the Lord? Bc that’s how I think of motherhood: a calling to nurture others by studying the One who nurtures me. So I gotta make the first move: study the Bible and seek Him first. As my friend Autumn reminded me, vulnerability births transformation.

(I’ve had to be really vulnerable!)

So, yes motherhood has fully transformed me. But even more so, Christ has fully transformed me. My list of “all that He’s done for me” is off to a beautifully long start.

Something else I want you to know about me: I stalled for years before acknowledging I have anxiety and depression. It’s hard to talk about this because of course this isn’t forever “my hardship”, but rather because acknowledging this means to heal I have to work through some really difficult things. ✨

But my friend Jesus walks alongside me. He’s already done a mighty work in my heart, including helping me process my anger in healthier ways. I’ve also adopted a heart for sisterhood, mothering, and Titus 2 mentorship.

Sometimes our greatest losses are our greatest gains? That’s what I’m clinging to!

How about you? Tell me something about yourself so I can get to know you on a deeper heart level. 🖤🖤
