What every pregnant woman wants to know…

Whenever I’m pregnant I get a little nervous about having weird cravings. You know the ones: pickles and ice-cream, cookies and ketchup, french fries dipped in mayonnaise. I mean, for a large part of my day I’m thinking about what I’m going to eat next. (What?) During those first few weeks I really dread eating, but for the majority of my pregnancy I think about food and cravings and small meals and snacks in my purse.

And so I wonder if I’ll ever have a so-called weird craving. (So far: no.) And really, isn’t that what every pregnant woman secretly wants to know about the pregnant gal next door?

Have you had any strange pregnancy cravings? Normal cravings? Are any of you brave enough to admit what you’ve been eating? Even though I haven’t had any weird cravings, I’m only halfway through this pregnancy so there’s plenty of time for them to show up.

What I crave the most is a big bowl of cereal, juicy fruit, ice-cream, popsicles, cookies & milk, and any pairing that involves a combination of cheese/salt/crunch. And yes these are the same cravings I had with Maxwell. Makes me wonder if baby #2 is a little girl or a little boy.

So I’d love to know, what are your pregnancy cravings? (Don’t be shy, fill me in on what I’m missing — wink!)

I’ve been pregnant four times, and I can’t say that I ever had any weird cravings either. I am all about texture anyway, so I lean toward crunchy foods like crisp apples, cereal (eaten quickly of course before it gets soggy!), pretzels dipped in cheese sauce, nuts (my new favorite obsession is a combination of pistachios, pecans, sunflower seeds, and cashews — yum!). I know you don’t need to hear me say to enjoy every minute of your pregnancy, because you always seem to take advantage of living fully every minute of your day. I enjoy your posts and your upbeat musings of everyday life as a mama and wife :)

Your comment is so right on… I know I mentioned crunchy foods but that really is “it” the second time around. And thanks for the bit about the musings :)

Chocolate cake. I LOVED chocolate cake when I was pregnant with my daughter. I used to fantasize about eating it with my hands. And once I thought it would be a good idea to put coleslaw and fritos on a hotdog. Turns out it didn’t taste so great. One thing I couldn’t get enough of (especially in the 1st tri) was cold cereal. It was one of the only things I could eat for weeks.

I crave ice cream almost daily. Pizza and anything cheesy always calls my name. Berries, watermelon, for a while I craved donuts. Sometimes I just crave a nice deli meat sandwich, heated to steaming of course!

I usually eat yogurt and cereal for breakfast, but up until the 3rd trimester, I couldn’t stand yogurt. So I ate Chocolate Malt-O-Meal hot cereal with golden raisins for breakfast every day. I’ll admit, I enjoy eating that for breakfast even when I’m not pregnant, but people tend to consider it a little weird. :)

I am pregnant with my third and although I am still in my first trimester, I have already had intense cravings for sushi and beer. Don’t worry, I haven’t given in to either!!! I think I crave them because I know how long it will be until I can have them again. 😂.
With my first pregnancy I craved spicy foods. Especially jalapeño bites from Arbys and flaming hot Cheetos. With my second, it was anything and everything sweet and lemoney. Both were girls!

Yes!!!!! Thank you. What is up with the “can’t have it so I want it more”-ness to certain foods? All I want is a strong margarita. And there’s no way to make that happen right now. Oh well, it gives me something to dream about at night when I can’t sleep ;)

I think it’s hilarious that one of your “weird cravings” foods is something I eat frequently. French fries and mayonnaise belong together, I tell you!

I haven’t been pregnant in some many years, but with my first it was all about chocolate, the second, I only wanted tomatoes and cucumbers, and the third…wait for it….its gross….cream of potato soup! As soon as I had the baby I never wanted to see cream of potato soup again!
My first signs of pregnancy is a craving for ice cream…never desire ice cream unless I am pregnant. Go figure!

Congrats on baby #2! Enjoy all your cravings…they sound delish!

Love it! :) yeah there are definitely some foods that are totally unappealing… like peanut butter & ritz crackers. I was so nauseous with Max that that’s all I ate. So this time it’s not even an option for “comfort food” ;)

I loved to eat cottage cheese for breakfast but then when I was pregnant I couldn’t stand eating it (tasted like sawdust). I craved siracha and intensely spicy foods with my baby girl. I’m talking so hot other people couldn’t eat it. Which is weird because I never liked spicy food before pregnancy.

With my first I had major food aversions. I basically lived off of scrambled eggs, ‘healthy’ hot dogs and french fries (the frozen kind). The end.
With my second, I was into salty & sweet and Taco Bell tacos. I did a TON of baking/cooking as I catered to any whim I had. Came up with some amazing things our family now loves like my apple dump pancakes.

My mom tells me when she was pregnant with me she would order a plain hamburger (burger and bun only) and then slather it with strawberry jam. I am happy to report that never once in my life have I craved that.

I’m not pregnant, but as a French Canadian, I can report that french fries and mayo is TOTALLY a thing. In fact, it’s very common to get it on the side without ordering it, or it’s not strange to request it. It’s delicious.

I’m 18 weeks pregnant with my 2nd baby, and I’ve been craving beef jerky (although I ate so much of it in the 1st tri that now that grosses me out), anything fruity and sweet (fruit snacks! popsicles!), lemonade all the time, pickles, and crunchy, salty things like potato chips. The other night I woke up in the middle of the night absolutely starving and ate about 10 mini pickles, an entire grapefruit and a banana. So weird!

I wondered about this, too, when I first found out I was pregnant. And I’ve definitely craved things (gummy bears, bananas, cappuccino ice cream, and Subway), but nothing that I’d call weird. The only “weird” part of it is how consistent the cravings are–I used to get sick of bananas and Subway if I ate too much/too often. But these days I go through a bunch of bananas in about two days, and I could eat Subway every single day and not get tired of it.

If only the gummy bears thing had stuck around as long… I’ve got a six-pound bag sitting in the pantry that hasn’t been touched since I satisfied the initial craving. Oops! :)

With baby #1 it was totally weird and gross I lived off of peanut and butter sandwiches with strawberry preserves, garlic salt, pickles, onions and mustard.Baby#2/3 Twins was Mars bars and dr pepper. Baby # 4 was gross too I would dip my peanut butter crackers in orange juice. With this baby I’m living off of Doritos, pickles, and watermelon salads with Catalina dressing. My first 3 babies were boys and my fourth girl excited to see what this one is :)

How about a little Wednesday night introduction? 😘Social media sure has changed over the years and we don’t always SEE who we’re following or remember WHY we’re following certain accounts.

So, hello! As you can gather, my name is Maggie ;)

I started writing online (almost 13 years ago) to share the handmade products I was sewing. My shop was called Gussy Sews. ✂️👛I love the community that has grown from sewing & sharing online.

Let’s FFW to today: Zack and I live in Michigan and have four young children (2 boys & 2 girls). I slowly left the handmade industry and walked right into homemaking, homeschooling, and encouraging women through writing. 💕📝

Motherhood has been very hard on me. (And not just because of how close in age our four children are.) It’s been hard for me because I fought for years to accept that *it’s supposed to be hard*.

I mean, how do you effectively teach another person to know and love the Lord? Bc that’s how I think of motherhood: a calling to nurture others by studying the One who nurtures me. So I gotta make the first move: study the Bible and seek Him first. As my friend Autumn reminded me, vulnerability births transformation.

(I’ve had to be really vulnerable!)

So, yes motherhood has fully transformed me. But even more so, Christ has fully transformed me. My list of “all that He’s done for me” is off to a beautifully long start.

Something else I want you to know about me: I stalled for years before acknowledging I have anxiety and depression. It’s hard to talk about this because of course this isn’t forever “my hardship”, but rather because acknowledging this means to heal I have to work through some really difficult things. ✨

But my friend Jesus walks alongside me. He’s already done a mighty work in my heart, including helping me process my anger in healthier ways. I’ve also adopted a heart for sisterhood, mothering, and Titus 2 mentorship.

Sometimes our greatest losses are our greatest gains? That’s what I’m clinging to!

How about you? Tell me something about yourself so I can get to know you on a deeper heart level. 🖤🖤
