Yesterday was one of those days where once I woke up, the buzz of life was already roaring. {thank goodness for coffee!} I woke up first at 4am and of course did a little happy dance once I saw that it was ONLY 4am and I could get three more hours of sleep. When I came back from the bathroom I found a sweet little puppy in my spot on the bed. So what did I do? I scootched him over and fell back asleep sandwiched between Zack & Bauer, totally snickering that Zack didn’t know of this, hah! Normally Bauer isn’t allowed on the bed at night, but I’ve been successful a few times now at convincing Zack otherwise. Like when I was sick, or when I was getting ready to leave town for a conference. Someone leave a comment and tell me I’m not alone in this??? ;]

{Unless I am alone, then no need to comment.}

I knew yesterday was going to be a busy day even before it was time to wake up, so those few extra hours were like a little gift from the Lord. But once it was time to wake up? OH WOWZERS, like I said earlier, the buzz of life was roaring at my face. Sometimes I think, Who am I to have been given so much responsibility?

Everything with Gussy Sews is so much fun — a constant adventure, a growing challenge — but it does make me laugh at myself and how much I fretted over the small things, years back when everything was so different than it is now. I read a quote once, something about “the day you grow up is the day you can laugh at yourself.” So true.

This November will be three years since I threaded my first sewing machine. Three years since I checked out 30 library books, three years since I stalked YouTube for the best sewing tutorials, since I opened my first Etsy shop. Three whole years.

And to think that with yesterday being so intense I almost didn’t take a minute to offer up some gratitude for the gift these past three years have been? Gosh, am I ever thankful…

I’m also thankful for this friend :] Thanks for the chat yesterday!!!

♥

I know the feelings all too well. We get so busy we forget how we got here and all we have! Thanks for reminding me to be grateful.

    Cheers!

Five years ago my husband left town for a 2-week class for his job. Ever since then, my puppy occasionally shares the bed, and always when my husband is away for a night. ;)

Good to be thankful, it keeps us in the right perspective. When we stop and think about it life is pretty amazing! Congratulations on continuing towards your goals and learning a ton along the way :)

As for doggies, our old black lab was used to sleeping in the surfer guy’s bed until I moved in. I’m with Zach on that, but most of my friends and family are with you on that. I think it just depends on the person’s personality. I just can’t sleep next to a dog, but I still love ’em. It does sound cozy and that visual is so cute :) xoxo

My dog sleeps on my bed too! She’s small, and she mostly stays by my feet. If I put her on the floor she cries and then I feel horribly guilty… so I let her jump up and then she’s happy. I have a baby-sized blanket that I let her lay on; that’s “her spot” and she knows it. :)

Congrats on three years! Here’s to many more years of sewing.

I usually wake up in the morning and my husband has been replaced with our dog, Duffy. She even lays her head on his pillow. Too cute!

tee hehe — i love that!

want to know something funny? a few months ago Zack woke up and was in a dreamy haze, and thought Bauer was laying next to him (on my pillow) because he saw blonde hair on the pillow. now, i don’t know whether to LAUGH or to CRY because Zack thought my hair was bauer’s hair???

oh my gosh, like i just shared that on my blog.
      HAH!

    Oh! Just read this……
    Wondering where “Gussy” comes from?
My mom started calling me Gussy after Gussy the Goose from Charlotte’s Web (2006). The character, as written on a Ty Beanie Baby tag, “always, always, always has a lot to say, say, say.”
Helloooo! That is me :] Give me your ears and I’ll talk for hours!
    And so, Gussy was born.

    Now I know! Love it!

Our pug baby Milo totally sleeps in the bed… every night! No judging here. Most of the time it’s me, my hubby, the pup and baby girl all in squished together. We love to snuggle at the Greenos :)

You have no idea how this post has inspired me!! When you said it had ONLY been three years since you threaded a sewing machine, my stomach did a little flip. I have always wanted to sew. I have a machine in my hall closet that is always calling my name. I’ve taken classes, but for some reason it just never clicks. I come away feeling like a total failure. Have I ever tried Youtube tutorials, checking out every library book I could find and just threading the machine and running with it? No. I’m going to now. Thank you sooo much! Your things are beautiful too.

and YES — use YouTube, i found it so helpful when learning how to sew, because some times a picture just isn’t enough!!! threading the machine, help with the bobbin, sewing in a zipper — FABULOUS, thanks to YouTube.

xoxo, and YAY FOR YOU!!!!! :]

Girl, you are such an inspiration and I love to read of your gratitude. We have all be blessed and the more we count and name those blessings, the more we are willing to push on in life when the going gets tough.

Thanks for sharing your heart with us and for inspiring so many of us.

Wow. Three years. That is awesome!

And yeah. We have the two most adorable kitties you have ever seen. And they are not allowed in our room (because they are indoor / outdoor and get dirty and germy). But when hubs is away, they totally sleep on the bed with me. Because I want something next to me! haha Don’t tell my hubby though! ;)

My tiny dog and cat both sleep on my bed and my boyfriend hates it! He talks all the time about how it’ll stop when we live together. I like to gently remind him that they were here first and are here to stay :)
