{our [new] daily routine}

Filed Under: the pup

Bauer is growing up so fast. We’ve had him for 3 weeks now {what??!} and he’s learning & growing & we love him oh-so mucho. Every morning he barks at 6:30 {yaaawn} and Zack takes him outside. I skip to the shower and the boys play in the living room while I finish up in the b-room. Then Zack gets in and we both take turns playing with Bauer while we’re “getting ready” ;]

We all leave the house at 8:15am and walk Zack to the bus stop. The bus driver always jokes, Puppies can ride this bus, but I always look at him like “yeah right, Bauer only wants me this morning.”

Hah!

Then Bauer and I start our morning walk. He likes to stop and stare at the birds, squirrels, and leaves blowing around. It’s so adorable. He thinks every moving thing is his friend and he pounces after them. {love} Some times he’ll even sit and watch. In those moments I love Bauer even more than I already did a few minutes ago.

And… every few blocks we run down the streets.

And, I’m always wearing jeans. And boots. And a scarf and an occasional hat. I bet the nice people watching us from their living room windows laugh at me every morning. That’s OK — Bauer has a lot of energy and I will do anything for him, even if that means running before 9am {ewwwwww}.

* Sidenote: running with Bauer is showing to be great for both of us. B gets to do puppy-like things with all his energy; I’ll be buying smaller-size pants soon.

We make our way back home, about 30 minutes later…

Bauer has some water, we play on the living room rug, then he takes a nap while I check email and do some work online for 1-2 hours. He then goes in his crate for about 3 hours while I work in the studio. He never barks… or yips… he must know I’m working hard and that he’s soooooo lucky to have a mommy that works from home so he isn’t in his crate for 8+ hours each day :]

Out the little pup comes, and we play some more. Then he goes back in until about 6pm. Some times we drive downtown and pick Zack up from work, other times I start on dinner and Bauer lays under the kitchen work table until Zack gets home.

We play, watch movies together, take naps — ya know, the usual ;] Soon it’s bed time and we start the process over 7.5 hours later.

***

We’ve been working on “sit”, “lay down” and “stay” and so far Bauer’s doing well. He likes to follow us around the house, but if we ever can’t find him he’s either in one of three places:

    * on a rug somewhere in the house
    * under the red couch
    * under our bed {hah! he can never find his way out because our bed skirt is brown}

Probably one of the cutest things Bauer does is stick his paw/arm out to touch us. He’s constantly reaching out to touch us, like when Zack kisses Bauer on the head, Bauer puts his paw up on Zack’s face. It’s very sweet :]

Whenever I carry Bauer outside he’ll lift his paw when I get close to a door like he’s going to help me open it. I can hardly stand his cuteness.

I keep saying to Zack, How did we get by without a dog? Because Bauer is just so wonderful to have around. He’s already a huge part of our family, even if it’s only been 3 weeks since we adopted him.

I sure like our [new] daily routine ♥.

    don’t pupsters add so much to your life? :) I can so identify with this post and think of you ALL the time. When I am riding the train or working long hours in the office. Last night when I was making rosettes with Polo snuggling with me on the couch I even said to him, ” maybe someday I can be a stay at home puppy mom and handmade queen like gussy.”
    You inspire me gus;)

    Sounds like a great routine for your little family! We promised my daughter that she could have a dog when she turned 10, adopting sounds like it’s the best bet…hopefully we can find a dog as cute as Bauer!

    Hi there, I found your blog through Tatertots and Jello. I just have to say that your little pup is absolutely adorable! We just recently, well a little over 3 months ago, brought our little guy Ollie into our family and we couldn’t be happier as well. Cherish the moments you have when they’re this little though. Our pup’s gone from 14 lbs to 65+ lbs in a matter of 3 months! They grow up wayy too fast!

Ohhhhh, this year. Ohhhh, specifically these last Ohhhhh, this year. Ohhhh, specifically these last 3 months. I’ve had more anxiety than ever, and it’s seriously putting me on my knees in prayer —almost daily. My mind and chest aren’t unfamiliar of the attacks, but the grip it’s had on me since September has been so strong. The attacks are painful. But... Worship music has been one of my main healers. 🎶I know God is close to the broken-hearted (Psalm 34:18), and singing this truth really soothes me. Social media has been a big trigger for anxiety for me. I don’t want to “miss out on my life”, which is why I’ve hugely stepped back in posting and scrolling.

One song in particular comes to mind:

“We step into Freedom.
We step into all you have for us.” -Bethel Music & Jenn Johnson

There IS freedom from the anxiety attacks. For me: music, scripture, eating healthy, vitamins, rest, crying, prayer, honesty — these things help tremendously. Also getting up and MOVING when my anxiety sits on me like a boulder, that helps too. 🖤

Another soothing truth is from the end of Psalm 34:19 — “many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the lord delivers him of them all.”

Seriously. Thank you lord. Thank you for music and for rest and for the words in your book. I need them. I need You. I need Your freedom. I trust you’ll deliver me.

We piled in the car this morning for a nature walk We piled in the car this morning for a nature walk. When I finally walked out and sat down, they shouted, “THE QUEEN! EVERYBODY CHEER FOR THE QUEEN!” (yes, they really call me that...☺️💓☺️)

I brought our basket of mittens and gloves and hats. The older two brought RC cars. Bauer the dog came along; we had a wonderful time on our walk.

The afternoon was harder, but overall the day was sandwiched between two really sweet time slots.

Bedtime tonight was wonderful. We read two chapters from our read aloud and Max lost another baby tooth.

This job I have, it really wears me down AND fills me up. It’s a constant take away AND fill up. Even when the moments feel so fitful, I know the story is rich.

🕯🌙 Hello, sweet slumber. You’re carrying my babies away to a peaceful land. Goodnight, my children. Goodnight.

What has kept you and your home busy as of late? F What has kept you and your home busy as of late? For us, it’s this…

The sound of Julia Robert’s calming voice is playing in the background of our playroom. Yesterday we finished another read aloud, Charlotte’s Web, so today my children are watching the movie. Knowing in-detail the lessons they are learning, along with reading books together, definitely adds to the joy of motherhood; the joy of teaching my children and being with them for so many hours each day. We experience so much together. Even when things feel chaotic at home, when I can’t call something by the correct name they still long to be near me and work alongside me. Tired has been a dear companion to me for the last seven years, but my children are gentle with their responses.

It’s come to my realization there’s plenty of It’s come to my realization there’s plenty of time these days to craft a letter when I wash dishes, take my kids on a walk, or take care of our garden. All that silence, it makes my internal monologue even louder 🤣.

Many times we are out & about in the neighborhood and I think, “oh the flowers surrounding your porch are lovely!” Or, “wow” (to the elderly man) “you have such a great smile, thanks for sharing it with us!” Wouldn’t it be great to jot that down in a card and send it through the mail as well?

We are always in need of community & kind words! 🌷💬

I remember many years ago, when nearly pregnant with another baby and our personal finances were THE PITS, my best friend came over with $500 cash. Just to bless us. She also included a personal note. Of course, I’ve always known how special personal notes are, but this card really meant so much.

And so I’ve decided as the year-end nears: wouldn’t it be nice to send a letter a week for the final 20 weeks we have left in 2020. Me thinks so 🙂.

Community & kind words: I’m coming for you!

PS. wanna join me in sending 20 cards by Dec. 31?
