A new Gussy wallet for the cash envelope system!

Thank you once more to the many of you who supported me in February when I announced I was putting my Gussy Sews handmade shop on yet another maternity leave ;) I was humbled over your generous support and wanted to make sure I shared my appreciation. The baby countdown is on: about 6 weeks left.

Since then I have sewed a few custom Gussy orders (click here to see what’s available + place an order), and I’m currently working on a wholesale order (more details below). But, I also wanted to share with you something totally new I made for myself ~ a zipped wallet that supports the envelope system.

As many of you know, we are on the last leg of our marathon DEBT FREEDOM goal! Our family uses cash to pay for everything (which is how we’ve paid off so much debt), and because of this choice I designed a zipped wallet to hold a variety of important cards (debit, ID, insurance, etc.), my cash envelopes for staying organized, and a full-length zipped section for coins on the backside.

We have paid off over $53,000 of debt since we got serious 2.5 years ago, and the only way we’ve made this happen is by creating a budget, sticking to it, and paying with cash for all purchases. Here are a couple detailed debt freedom blog posts if you want to read more! Having a fancy looking wallet for my envelopes encourages me ~ I thrive on affirmation, regardless of whether it’s simple or more intentional!

Oh, and I wanted to tell you about something else…

…I’ve also been working on a wholesale Gussy order that’s delivering to Ferndale, MI next week. Fun fact about Ferndale: it’s where we lived during our first year of marriage nearly TEN years ago! Another fun fact: our Ferndale address is #2 out of the #7 homes we’ve made together.

The fabrics below are a part of the wholesale order, and they are so perfect for spring. Gathering a collection of fabrics is one of my favorite parts of the sewing process. Which fabric design is your favorite?

Ok ~ there’s just one more thing I want to show you, blush pink zippers! The tape color is the perfect contrast to the metal zipper. These are going to be sewn into each medium zip pouch of the wholesale order. I’m also sewing XL zips for the order and those will get my traditional light gray tape zipper.

So that’s what I’ve been sewing! What creative projects you working on? And yes, gardening / re-arranging your home / creating a meal plan totally counts as creativity!

PS. I’m working on a blog post showing my progress with the Madeline house I’m embroidering ;) you guys, it’s so so cute! I’m excited to show you more.

xx

What a great idea on the cash envelope-friendly zip pouch. Having things designed exactly for my purposes/life is one of the things that makes me happy! Right now I’m working on creating rustic signs and little clay air plant holders. I’ve never done this before, but my Mom and I are working together to be creative and try to make a little extra $. I’m excited, but also wonder if our ideas will be something anyone wants to buy!

Oh I’m just so excited for you. There’s nothing like the feeling that comes with doing something you wholly love!!! Keep your products something that excite YOU, share your excitement and invite others to take a peek, and make sure you prioritize profitability (if you’re serious about selling) ~ just my advice ;) PUMPED for you!

I know this is slightly off subject, but it still relates to creativity…I owe you a big thank you for helping me grow creatively. When you share how you decorate or the things you find thrifting, it inspires me so much. I learned finger knitting because of you, and it’s now my favorite hobby. Thank you for helping me find creativity I didn’t even know I had. :)

I’m feeling like a tired lady. But sunshine & fresh air are good companions to keep around.

How about a little Wednesday night introduction? 😘Social media sure has changed over the years and we don’t always SEE who we’re following or remember WHY we’re following certain accounts.

So, hello! As you can gather, my name is Maggie ;)

I started writing online (almost 13 years ago) to share the handmade products I was sewing. My shop was called Gussy Sews. ✂️👛I love the community that has grown from sewing & sharing online.

Let’s FFW to today: Zack and I live in Michigan and have four young children (2 boys & 2 girls). I slowly left the handmade industry and walked right into homemaking, homeschooling, and encouraging women through writing. 💕📝

Motherhood has been very hard on me. (And not just because of how close in age our four children are.) It’s been hard for me because I fought for years to accept that *it’s supposed to be hard*.

I mean, how do you effectively teach another person to know and love the Lord? Bc that’s how I think of motherhood: a calling to nurture others by studying the One who nurtures me. So I gotta make the first move: study the Bible and seek Him first. As my friend Autumn reminded me, vulnerability births transformation.

(I’ve had to be really vulnerable!)

So, yes motherhood has fully transformed me. But even more so, Christ has fully transformed me. My list of “all that He’s done for me” is off to a beautifully long start.

Something else I want you to know about me: I stalled for years before acknowledging I have anxiety and depression. It’s hard to talk about this because of course this isn’t forever “my hardship”, but rather because acknowledging this means to heal I have to work through some really difficult things. ✨

But my friend Jesus walks alongside me. He’s already done a mighty work in my heart, including helping me process my anger in healthier ways. I’ve also adopted a heart for sisterhood, mothering, and Titus 2 mentorship.

Sometimes our greatest losses are our greatest gains? That’s what I’m clinging to!

How about you? Tell me something about yourself so I can get to know you on a deeper heart level. 🖤🖤

But today! Today we reset the rhythm, and we have had a much happier home & time learning together. 👏🏻
