Oh for goodness sakes, the mister sure is handsome, isn’t he?

Our biggest, craziest, cross-country move // adventure to Santa Monica, California begins in just 6 days {gulp}. We decided to pull out from our our Minneapolis driveway and head west a day early because really, what is one extra day? Except for the fact we’ll be able to get into our home a day earlier. Hopefully…

I know this all seems very brave of us, but I’m nervous about our move. How soon until we find a church? How soon until we find friends? And what about a groove for our family? One second I have butterflies — I’m really excited to decorate our new home, and of course the beautiful weather waiting for us, the next second I get a giant lump in my throat. This is by far our biggest family adventure. And of course, Minneapolis has given our family so many big “firsts” — the launch of Gussy Sews, and just this summer, a little baby arriving in March. It has to be good though, because God is good.

OKIE DOKIE, TIME FOR MORE UPDATES ON CALIFORNIA:

— we are still looking for a house or apartment to rent + would love your continued prayers/warm wishes in this area. If you know of anyone that needs someone to sublet for them, or that has a guest house we could rent, or ANYTHING similar, please let me know. We’re looking in the Santa Monica area // surrounding cities.

— Zack has accepted a 3-month freelance position, which is sooooo exciting! It’s exactly what he wanted {yeow!} + he starts right after Labor Day. Way to find the bacon, babe! ;)

— our garage sale on Saturday was SUPER SUPER successful + we feel very blessed!!!!!

— the Gussy shop WILL remain open while we move. My assistant Cambria will be shipping all product so there won’t be any down time. However, we’d still like to sell as much as we can before we move on August 27th. Thank you for your continued help with sharing the Gussy Sews shop with your friends :) Click over for more information on our summer sale, too!

— we have a full editorial calender for August + September planned, which is making me sooo nerdily excited.  Get ready for more business posts + a couple of new blog series!

— October is going to be a BUSY month for Gussy Sews. First I’ll be flying to Indianapolis to be a community leader at Influence, then I’ll be flying to the Philadelphia area to speak at Allume {see full speaker list here}. If you’re going to either event I can’t wait to meet you, yeow! :)

— This little babe in my belly is almost 12.5 weeks old. Every week I find more + more energy, but I can tell my body is already starting to change. Like how I could go to bed at 8:30pm every night ;) Certain clothes aren’t fitting the same way so a couple times I’ve worn a Bella Band that sweet Tracey mailed me. And as for food, all I want to eat is fresh fruit + veggies. No meat, though. And a tiny piece of chocolate after dinner is fun ;) Every time I talk to my mom on the phone she asks how I’m feeling, what new things have we thought about {decorating the nursery, cloth diapering, etc} and it makes me feel so important. I love it, and you Mom!! :)

PS. We sold our red couch in our garage sale — BUT! BUT!, I’m excited to go thrifting for a new couch and I’m secretly wishing it’s red :) Or maybe dark gray!

I am really happy for you and Sack that he found work. When we moved here in SA from a big town to the small town of Clarens,( a link so that you can look http://www.clarensinfo.co.za/) we didn’t know a lot of people (just one or two people at a Restaurant where we ate when we build our house). To live in one town and build in another town is a different story, but now after 8 years we don’t want to move. I am sure everything will turn out well for you and that you find a nice house for you, Sack, Bauer ( and your baby).

How exciting! Dave and I are in the middle of a similar adventure! We just moved back to Michigan after living in Louisiana for a few years. When we moved, I was 20 weeks. Now I’m 29 weeks (Yikes!), we finally have a place to live (other than my moms house!) and Dave starts work at his new school next week! We’ve been so blessed through the whole process and the Lord provided for us every step of the way! He’ll provide for you and Zack and baby, too! :) I can’t wait to read more about your moving adventures :)

I don’t know if you read all your comments, but I noticed you mentioned cloth diapering. Please take a few minutes to check out The Little Bee Co. Founded by my close friend and stay at home mom. She started the company a little over a year ago with a passion to help orphans. She went out and designed her own diaper (which is the highest quality) and for every diaper purchased she donates one to an orphan in need. She’s already had several “diaper drops” all around the world (documented through pictures). I have a feeling you’ll love this company! Ohhhhh, this year. Ohhhh, specifically these last Ohhhhh, this year. Ohhhh, specifically these last 3 months. I’ve had more anxiety than ever, and it’s seriously putting me on my knees in prayer —almost daily. My mind and chest aren’t unfamiliar of the attacks, but the grip it’s had on me since September has been so strong. The attacks are painful. But... Worship music has been one of my main healers. 🎶I know God is close to the broken-hearted (Psalm 34:18), and singing this truth really soothes me. Social media has been a big trigger for anxiety for me. I don’t want to “miss out on my life”, which is why I’ve hugely stepped back in posting and scrolling.

One song in particular comes to mind:

“We step into Freedom.
We step into all you have for us.” -Bethel Music & Jenn Johnson

There IS freedom from the anxiety attacks. For me: music, scripture, eating healthy, vitamins, rest, crying, prayer, honesty — these things help tremendously. Also getting up and MOVING when my anxiety sits on me like a boulder, that helps too. 🖤

Another soothing truth is from the end of Psalm 34:19 — “many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the lord delivers him of them all.”

Seriously. Thank you lord. Thank you for music and for rest and for the words in your book. I need them. I need You. I need Your freedom. I trust you’ll deliver me.

What has kept you and your home busy as of late? F What has kept you and your home busy as of late? For us, it’s this…

The sound of Julia Robert’s calming voice is playing in the background of our playroom. Yesterday we finished another read aloud, Charlotte’s Web, so today my children are watching the movie. Knowing in-detail the lessons they are learning, along with reading books together, definitely adds to the joy of motherhood; the joy of teaching my children and being with them for so many hours each day. We experience so much together. Even when things feel chaotic at home, when I can’t call something by the correct name they still long to be near me and work alongside me. Tired has been a dear companion to me for the last seven years, but my children are gentle with their responses.

Many times we are out & about in the neighborhood and I think, “oh the flowers surrounding your porch are lovely!” Or, “wow” (to the elderly man) “you have such a great smile, thanks for sharing it with us!” Wouldn’t it be great to jot that down in a card and send it through the mail as well?

We are always in need of community & kind words! 🌷💬

I remember many years ago, when nearly pregnant with another baby and our personal finances were THE PITS, my best friend came over with $500 cash. Just to bless us. She also included a personal note. Of course, I’ve always known how special personal notes are, but this card really meant so much.

And so I’ve decided as the year-end nears: wouldn’t it be nice to send a letter a week for the final 20 weeks we have left in 2020. Me thinks so 🙂.

Community & kind words: I’m coming for you!

PS. wanna join me in sending 20 cards by Dec. 31?

I saw her feature in a recent issue of “Better Homes & Gardens” and I was all 🤩🤩over her foyer. I’m using 1/2” black masking tape (mistake-making friendly) instead of paint, also renter friendly.

Working on this project has been so good for my mental health. Doing > worrying.
