Good morning, I have had a wonderful week. One thing I am happy about this week is…
I am teaching 3 adults swimming lessons and it looks like they all will swim this week. So thankful, it is extremely hard to learn to swim as an adult.
    Blessings to everyone,
    Lori

I am excited to share something positive about my life!:) I am a 45 year old wife and mother who has reached that great point in life when you really feel comfortable in your own skin. When I was younger just the thought of being “forty something” sent me under the covers in fear but now I embrace it. I have come to realize no matter what age we are we can still learn, grow, laugh and love. This year I became a Grandmother for the first time and the joy that has brought me is amazing! Recently I have decided (with help from 3 of my daughters) to start an at home business and hope to have it off the ground soon. Its so exciting to see something I am passionate about come to fruition!! Anyway, they say 40 is the new 30. I disagree…30 was never this good!:)

My positive for this week is that I am completing my last assignment for my graduate degree! It has been a long year and a half in grad school and I am so happy to now settle into my new work and being mom to my three wonderful boys – with no more papers! (Well, at least for a while until the next degree catches my eye : )).

I am happy that my husband has a job this week. He’s in construction/remodeling and that industry has taken a hit here recently. It’s been especially nice that he has had income because we had several unexpected expenses this month – vet bills, cars breaking down, A/C going out, and that income has been utilized.

  21. Cristy says

    July 29, 2011 at 7:14 am

Whew… this has been a long hard week… but… today is the last day at my current job. I’ve been here for 6 years and my life looks so incredibly different than when I started. Next Thursday I attend my first training for my new job as a teacher, the work that I’ve wanted to do since I was 8 years old. It is a little bit scary but completely thrilling.

wowzers! what a great list of goodies!
I am a mom, so there are moments in my week that I think, I can not pick that up again one more time with out going mad! BUT, then I think about how lucky I am to be a mom, to be home with the very healthy kids, to have a home to clean. I felt very grateful this week had no immediate responsibilities. Nothing on the schedule. If the kids wanted to go to the water park I took them. The pool? no problem. We took it easy and did what we wanted. It was the best week we’ve had all summer. ;)

My husband is US Marine, and at times its hard that he isn’t here very often, and I am alone in Hawaii by myself and thousands of miles away from my family. But in the last 3 months, since he left for our first deployment, I decided that I wanted to make a difference in the military community. In three months I have started a t-shirt company with my friend for my husbands battalion, started an online community for his base where small businesses like myself and others can showcase their small businesses, got involved in planning events for my husbands battery within his battalion, as well as trying to get my own business, where I sell stylish customizable frames and countdown blocks to be as profitable as Gussy Sews. Everyday I am inspired by people who make a difference and don’t even bat an eye. Just knowing that I am making a difference even if its small makes me feel positive when I know my husband is out in a dangerous place fighting for our freedoms! :)

There are so many positive things to share, because even when I want to complain, I look around and realize that even at our worst, we are blessed compared to most other countries. We have freedom to live our lives and make our own choices, good or bad. My children are relatively healthy, we may not have a large house but we have a warm, dry, safe home, our cars are older and used but they are ours and are paid off, my husband has a good job (which in Michigan is a difficult thing to come by). In the grand scheme, we have nothing to complain about. period.

    Lovely features, Gus!

The boys and I spent the early morning sitting on the high front steps of our new home, munching watermelon for breakfast and watching with wonder as the grass became a stormy ocean. We were much relieved to be sitting in safety on the back of a pirate ship, but what would happen when the pirates discovered we were using their vessel for a life boat? We were scared. Very frightened. We were forced to look over our shoulders, certain they’d discover their unwanted guests and make us each walk the plank. It was quite an eventful morning.

Something good about this week….I didn’t get sick! This is a big deal because EVERY other member of my house has been sick this week. And not a fun sick (not that ever being sick is fun) but when no one is keeping food in/down, it is so gross. I’ve done a lot of laundry and our house is now really clean (Also a good thing!). Hopefully everybody else stays well and I still don’t get it.

Good morning! Oh so many things to write about. My life has been hard this week {can we say teething toddler? ;)} but there are SO many things to be joyful and thankful for! :) I was getting a bit bummed yesterday with the cranky toddler stuff — mommy was starting to feel drained — and so I went to my Bible and journal yesterday. I read and wrote and read and wrote. I found encouragement in what I read and a release in writing. I was able to side-step a major funk I could have fallen into and went on a sewing spree! :) I managed to sew three pieces for my shop yesterday, put the finishing touches on several other items, create an Etsy banner, and even read a few blogs along the way {Inspiration Workshop! yeah!}. I am so grateful for the Lord who continues to encourage and lift me up in those blue moments. Yay for this giveaway, but also yay for remembering the positive this week! :)

I’m rediscovering my love of weaving melody and lyrics together as my drummer-hubs and I work on writing/recording together again! I’ve started blogging and have met an incredible community of like-minded women who share This Journey Road with me and I’ll be attending Relevant ’11 later this fall to give them some {hugs} IRL! Seriously, I can’t thank Him enough for these blessings He has showered on my life and heart. Maybe I’ll ask Him for one more – one of these oh-so-yummy giveaway packages! My husband was working in Afghanistan, at the time, when I found out that was pregnant last year. He was only able to come home for a couple of weeks before she was due in December. Every time, he had to go back things was always hard for us, because we weren’t use to being away from each other. My husband did miss the birth of our child, Abigail and was able to make it home ten days later. We only got to communicate through a webcam. We got to spend ten days with him and then he was back on a flight back to Afghanistan. He was a contractor and we loved the money. But, when he saw his daughter for the first time, he said that he has to figure out a way out of the contract. In March, when his first year of contract was ready to be renewed, he didn’t sign. He came home and surprised us. Neither one of us, had no job, but we had each other. Then, this guy that he worked with in Afghanistan was coming home to start a district manager job in North Carolina. He wanted Anthony to be part of the process. We moved all of our stuff in a 12 hour car drive to get to where we are today. The greatest part is that he is able to come home everyday to us.

I’m a preschool teacher, so a positive from my life is a little boy in my class, Isaac, who (practically every day) tells me, “I really love you, Michelle” in the most sincere voice ever! It melts my heart every time!

Dinner, and then looking at some real estate! It ended up being our dream house, and now we’re crunching numbers to see if we can do it! SO EXCITING!!

This week my family got to celebrate the 13th anniversary of my brother being diagnosed with cancer. Many of you would think that that is not a positive thing, but it is because the doctors told my parents he was going to die but God healed him and so now we celebrate God’s faithfulness on the anniversarry of his diagnoses.

Oh my gosh, what a fabulous, generous giveaway!!!! I needed the inspiration to find something good today because I am having to make hard parenting choices with my 18 year old son today and that makes me sad. BUT, I am very happy because my daughter is coming home from her mission trip today and I missed her so much! We are going to visit my mother in law this evening and I am happy about that, she has cancer and we had to cancel our last visit because she was having a bad day, so I am excited to see her today. Your blog and your creative vibe and energy are so inspiring Maggie, thank you so much! I have been working my own stuff and winning this package (escpecially #3) would really be the bees knees for me. You have inspired me to believe that I can make this work. Thank you so much, it means more than you know. So I am also thankful for YOU!

The best part of my weekends is that I have more “focused” time with my kids and husband. I work full time from home, while raising our kids, and a lot of times I wish I could not work and just “be” with them. They understand that Mom and Dad have to work and I do try to work mostly while they sleep. On the other hand I feel blessed beyond words for a job that I can work from home. If not for this job, my little ones would have to be in daycare and so I am so grateful to have this opportunity. Weekends though = more family time, less work at the computer, happy Mama! :)

I feel like, this week, it has been hard for me to find anything positive. So, thank you for “forcing” me to do that. My husband and I started leading our church’s youth group about a year ago and I’ve really had a hard time connecting with the girls that attend each week. But, a few weeks ago, we took them on their annual summer retreat and I grew closer to the girls. So, my positive for this week would be – two of the girls have begun texting me regularly. This may seem small or even annoying to some people. But, I am just so glad that I have been given this opportunity and that they trust me enough to share what’s going on in their lives.

Wonderful giveaway! Something positive about my life? Well, God has been guiding me lately to my goals. I wasn’t sure where I wanted to be in five years and clear as day He is showing me. It’s not what I expected but I truly love what I’m seeing. Step one? Next Wednesday I’m auditioning for a spot in my church’s worship band. It’s so nerve-wrecking and although it’s a dream of mine to sing professionally, I could never get over my fear. God kept bringing me back to it but I ran away in fear. On Wednesday I will be facing my fear and hopefully it’ll be one step towards my goals, whether I get the spot or not. I also posted about it for the world to see, which was also tough but I’m so glad I did it. Life is good, God is good. :)

He’d gotten there before me and had made us a meal! Granted it was microwaved taquitos and jalapeno poppers, but it was AMAZING. Because my husband had made it for us. :)

I love being able to bless people in small ways, like cards or packages…friends who need encouragement because they are going through a rough time and are hurting. It’s awesome because you know you’re surrounded by those same people who will do the same for you when you need it. I love that God takes care of us with small things like that and blesses us with such amazing friends.

Last week we lost a very important member or our family – our dog. He was fuzzy, loving and 14. He lived a good long life. He reminded me that time is short. So this week, I shut off the phone, put the computer down and spent the most wondeful time with my four little lovelies that God has so graciously trusted me with. My kids are great and I wouldn’t trade being with them for anything!

I would love any of the packages – holy cow – they are awesome!
I need some “blog” motivation so 1 or 2 would be great but oh, three would be fun!
    Thanks for the great giveaway

Such a brilliant day. I’ve had a move around in the house to give me space to create. The spare bedroom has become my sewing room. Yes – there’s still a bed, but it’s tucked away – leaving me loads of space. Just need to find some pretty storage baskets, and a folding table on which to put my cutting board – and there’ll be no stopping me.
I can finally reclaim my dining table, and leave everything out that I’m working on! Whoop whoop.

I have had the best Saturday!!! I had the opportunity to spend my entire day with my grandparents, on their farm!!!! We talked, shared memories, picked fresh vegetables and had dinner! My grandmother didn’t want me to do her dishes…but I caught her off guard when she was on the telephone :D. My daughter stayed the night with her great grandparents, something she’s done since she was 3, she’s now 12! Typically 12 year olds aren’t into that kind of enviornment and they crave their technology!!! My heart was full of love when she called today and asked if she could stay another night! She said, “I want to to stay, I’m having fun”! They have to be the best grandparents & great grandparents we could EVER ask for!!!!!!!!!

I find myself laughing all the time at little things she does. Her current favorite thing is blowing raspberries on my arms…or legs…wherever she can find a spot. Life this summer has been fast, yet I have been taking pleasure in the slow moments. Snuggling with my two little ones all sticky and warm fom a day at play, sunscreen smell still lingering, is one of the best ways to spend an afternoon. We have been taking full advantage of the growing season here and savoring the bounties of the earth. I have been blessed in many ways greet and small, and I thank God for the clarity to recognize it and enjoy it this summer!

A good friend of mine had decided to give up her baby for adoption. As a mom myself, I struggled with the idea, but supported her and her decision. In my heart, I always hoped she would change her mind. Last Wednesday, she and the father of the baby decided to keep their son! That night, she went into labor and they are now proud parents! It’s like their son was just waiting on them to finally make the decision :) Oh it just makes my heart sing!

Thank you for the fun giveaway! I get such a joy these days as my older son teachers my younger daughter how to sing different songs and how she tries so hard to keep up. She sings quietly but then she’ll practically yell the words and phrases she knows are coming up. Going to try and savor this age :)

Let’s see… this past weekend I was able to see my sister and brother-in-law to celebrate my sister’s 23rd birthday, I photographed a beautiful and totally God-driven wedding day on Saturday, and reconnected with some old friends yesterday at dinner alongside my husband. It was a good, good weekend! :)

My husband and I started a nonprofit that empowers inner city youth through youth development and safe houses, on Saturday I got to work and serve with one of the newer girls! All the kids were there to work off their camp balances, but Kim, who already raised all her $, selflessly and sacrificially showed up to help others work off their $!! She was truly and inspiration to me, I so wish I was more like that at her age! (shes only 16!) Such a positive influence to be around!!

I positively loved my weekend to visit my sister who is 6 hours away. The rest of my 5 siblings all stuck around home, so it’s sad not to be as close to her little family. My 3 year old niece and 2 year old nephew are so amazingly smart and entertaining, I so admire my sister as a mother! Very grateful for the time spent together with them!
Oh, and I found out that my sister is expecting once again! :)

Reflecting on this today 💓🕊 When I reflect o Reflecting on this today 💓🕊 When I reflect on the moments I’ve felt my mind spinning, my emotions swirly, it’s almost always when I’m not feasting on the word of God. Not that reading scripture is the cure for anxiety —no! Rather, it’s hard to worry when we’re worshipping.

I fought every internal comment I could think of a I fought every internal comment I could think of and took my kiddos for a looooong walk today before dinner. ❄️✨ There’s just so much work required to raise children! I’m feeling like a tired lady. But sunshine & fresh air are good companions to keep around.

We came home and I made “the best dinner ever”. Max specifically announced, “it’s so great you’re launching new meals to the world”. LOL— kids! 🤣👏🏻💓
How about a little Wednesday night introduction? 😘Social media sure has changed over the years and we don’t always SEE who we’re following or remember WHY we’re following certain accounts.

So, hello! As you can gather, my name is Maggie ;)

I started writing online (almost 13 years ago) to share the handmade products I was sewing. My shop was called Gussy Sews. ✂️👛I love the community that has grown from sewing & sharing online.

Let’s FFW to today: Zack and I live in Michigan and have four young children (2 boys & 2 girls). I slowly left the handmade industry and walked right into homemaking, homeschooling, and encouraging women through writing. 💕📝

Motherhood has been very hard on me. (And not just because of how close in age our four children are.) It’s been hard for me because I fought for years to accept that *it’s supposed to be hard*.

I mean, how do you effectively teach another person to know and love the Lord? Bc that’s how I think of motherhood: a calling to nurture others by studying the One who nurtures me. So I gotta make the first move: study the Bible and seek Him first. As my friend Autumn reminded me, vulnerability births transformation.

(I’ve had to be really vulnerable!)

So, yes motherhood has fully transformed me. But even more so, Christ has fully transformed me. My list of “all that He’s done for me” is off to a beautifully long start.

Something else I want you to know about me: I stalled for years before acknowledging I have anxiety and depression. It’s hard to talk about this because of course this isn’t forever “my hardship”, but rather because acknowledging this means to heal I have to work through some really difficult things. ✨

But my friend Jesus walks alongside me. He’s already done a mighty work in my heart, including helping me process my anger in healthier ways. I’ve also adopted a heart for sisterhood, mothering, and Titus 2 mentorship.

Sometimes our greatest losses are our greatest gains? That’s what I’m clinging to!

How about you? Tell me something about yourself so I can get to know you on a deeper heart level. 🖤🖤
