This giveaway is now closed.

Here at Gussy has a lot to say {and sew} we love to look at all things beautiful. Beautiful items that encourage creativity; beautiful items that we can use to share with others.

Today is week #31 of my series on Featured Artists, which is a bi-monthly event showcasing fun and sassy handmade shops! I love searching for new wares to show the Gussy community. You can read all back Featured Artist posts by clicking here.

Today’s Featured Artist post is a bit different. It’s a group feature showcasing work from the modern marigold, crow and iris, vintagetreasurehuntn & pretty tape, and at the end is a fun giveaway of sewing related items.

***

{The Modern Marigold} —

How did you come up with your shop name?

For some reason, I kept coming back to garden words. I wanted to invoke feelings of color, freshness, and modernity; latching onto marigolds just felt right. I also love alliteration!

What made you decide to open up shop?

I wanted to make more stuff than I had a use for! My shop is my creative outlet — where I can create for the sheer joy of it, and not because I’m fulfilling a need or want for myself or my family.

Name your favorite thing about selling handmade.

The constant flood of creativity and beauty on Etsy continually astonishes me. Witnessing that makes me put more steam into my own creations — not as an effort to keep up with the Joneses, but because it makes me realize how beautiful and inspiring an everyday, utilitarian object can be — and I want to be a part of that!

Give us a little glimpse into what a typical day in your life looks like.

Mornings are for the park, toddler art projects, and errands. Afternoons are for naps, reading, cartoons, and meltdowns. Nights are for working out (ha, ha), sewing, and junk food that I’ve hidden from the kids.

***

{Pretty Tape} —

Share a little bit about yourself.

I’m from a design background, so I love colors and pattern. I’m a Kdrama addict and tape addict. I sleep odd hours and can stay awake until 5am, but I can’t wake up at 6am – just not a morning person. I’m a mommy of 2 monkeys (boys) and they keep me busy majority of the time.

Name your favorite thing about selling handmade.

I love supporting the handmade community. I especially love it when people show me what they’ve created using the things they bought from my shop.

Give us a little glimpse into what a typical day in your life looks like.

Up at 7am, take kids to school.
Pack, pack, pack.
Nap.
Pick up kids.
Post office.
Dinner.
Randomness.
Kdrama when I’m addicted to a show.
Sleep around 2-3am on a normal day and sometimes… 5am.
Dream or nightmare.
Wake up at 7am and repeat.

How did you come up with your shop name?

It was quiet easy. The tape were pretty… so PrettyTape!

***

{Vintage Treasure Huntn} —

Share a little bit about yourself.

Me, well. I have been buying, collecting, keeping and reselling for about 10 years. My first vintage items I bought is my profile picture of an antique postcard. I love colors and graphics of the 1910’s or 20’s.

Name your favorite thing about selling handmade.

My shop offers buyers the supplies for making handmade items. I have a good eye when buying or locating local auctions that have sewing / fabric / embellishment items. Honestly, I have never stitched, sewn or cut, but love to collect and resell supplies. Most of my items are 30’s, 40’s, or 50’s.

Do you have a day job or sell on Etsy full-time?

I have 2 full time jobs (my real day job + full time mom), and 2 part time jobs (Etsy and another online selling site). Really!!

Give us a little glimpse into what a typical day in your life looks like.

My typical weekend includes finding flea markets, tag/estate sales, local or rural auctions. I hit a triple header a few weeks ago: in 1 day I visited a barn sale, a flea market and an auction. Wow!

***

{Crow and Iris} —

There was a little mix-up with the interview questions/answers with Crow and Iris, so please take a moment to browse their etsy shop and learn a little bit more about what they offer. Inside their shop you’ll find amazing colors, jewelry, and vintage goods — so fun!

Today I got some much needed alone time. I used it to meditate on this verse: “A cord of three strands is not easily broken.” Ecc. 4:12. There is an area of my life that I need to invite others to be a part of so that I can be stronger. God really does create us to be in a community!
