This giveaway is now closed.

Here at Gussy Sews we love to look at all things beautiful. Beautiful items that reflect childhood, love, and a joyful spirit; beautiful items that we can share with others.

Today is week #33 of my series on Featured Artists, which is a bi-monthly event showcasing fun and sassy handmade shops! I love searching for new wares to show the Gussy community. You can read all back Featured Artist posts by clicking here.

This week’s Featured Artist is Jenny from The Fuzzy Robot ~

***

Where do you call home? Are you from there originally?

Lincoln, Nebraska is where I call home. I’m originally from a small town called Columbus, just 70 miles from Lincoln, but have called Lincoln my home for a decade now. I love it, it’s a bigger city with a small town feel.

Share an interesting fact about yourself.

I’ve been fortunate to travel to nine countries other than the US, and hope to keep adding to that list.

How did you come up with your shop name?

I knew I wanted something memorable using the word “robot”, but was running into a mental brick wall. After asking friends to help brainstorm, one came up with “The Fuzzy Robot” because felted wool is in fact, fuzzy. I thought it was great! I should probably give her a portion of our sales ;].

Share a little bit about yourself.

I’m a wife to a wonderful man and mom to a two year old boy and a second boy to arrive mid-January (wow that freaks me out to see in print!). I have a degree in Psychology and spent 7 years after graduation working with college students through a campus ministry at the University here in Lincoln. Now I stay at home with Jack and work on fun robot creations.

What made you decide to open up shop?

I’ve always loved to create things, and especially to knit. When Jack was a baby, we saw how few fun clothing and accessories there were for boys. Girls got all the cool/cute stuff, but not so much for boys. So, I decided we needed to bridge that gap a little bit, and with the help of my hubby we came up with the idea of The Fuzzy Robot.

Name your favorite thing about selling handmade.

Seeing pictures of my clients’ children/loved ones wearing a Fuzzy Robot hat. It makes me happy that something I created brings someone such joy.

Do you have a day job or sell on Etsy full-time?

I just recently quit my part-time job as a barista in order to spend more time filling orders. And of course, chasing around a toddler and preparing for a second boy is a full-time job in itself!

Give us a little glimpse into what a typical day in your life looks like.

Playing with my son in the mornings, knitting during his naptime in the afternoon, cleaning/cooking/errands in between, and ending the day spending time with my awesome husband – usually watching some TV and knitting more hats. Nothing terribly glamorous, but a sweet life nonetheless.

What would you like to learn to do?

I would love to learn how to sew. My mom is an awesome seamstress, and there are so many cool things I’d love to make, but for some reason I just can’t wrap my mind around it. I can sew a straight line, but that’s about it.

What are you listening to right now?

Late Night with Jimmy Fallon – it’s nice to have grown-up TV time that doesn’t include Lightning McQueen or Nemo!

Name one place you must visit in your lifetime and why.

I would love for our family to visit the Dominican Republic. A few months ago, we decided to use a portion of our sales at The Fuzzy Robot to help support an adorable little girl just a few months older than Jack there through World Vision. Her name is Onaily, and I would love to be able to meet her and her family and show her how much we are thankful to be able to help her.
