Do you have a favorite magazine?

For years (YEARS, I tell you), I have loved Real Simple magazine. If I wanted to splurge on a small gift to myself, I would often bought this magazine. If Zack asked me for “something special”, there’s been a time or two when I requested a subscription. I never thought about why I love the magazine so much, until just recently: it’s slightly wider than most magazines, the content focuses on a variety of relationships (I love the advice column), and well, the focus on “simple” is a welcomed.

A nice magazine feels like a luxury, and so to have something like this in our home, just for me, is a wonderful treat (especially because “taking a shower” also feels like a luxury, snort).

Last year for Valentine’s Day, Zack gave me a subscription to Real Simple. Since then, every month, I’ve looked forward to receiving a new issue. When one arrives, I seriously let out a little laugh and run to my bedroom to put it on my desk. I’ve referenced all 12 issues, which is a sure fire sign I love the magazine. It’s not just beautiful, it’s practical! I re-read old issues and tear out any page that inspires beauty or hope. Then, I put them inside my analog Pinterest book. (This is a real thing, if you’re unsure.)

So I’d love to know: what is your favorite magazine? Has it changed over the years? And how do you feel about magazine subscriptions? I just can’t get over the 50%-off newsstand price discount.

PS. there’s still time to shop for Mother’s Day with this list of favorites, all Amazon Prime friendly ;)

We made the switch to Texture for iPad two years ago and have never looked back! for $10 a month, you get access to over 150 magazines including Real Simple! I love that I can download the magazines I want to read and save them on my iPad for when I have a few spare minutes. I also love that I have access to magazines that I might not tangibly buy but find interesting (Popular Mechanics, Wired and weird biking magazines my husband likes…) While I still love reading real books, and I don’t think I’d ever switch over to digital reader, for magazines, I love it! I take screenshots of any info I want to hang onto and save it on my computer (in a digital-analog Pinterest book). My favourite magazine for the past 15 years has been O. I absolutely love the stories and features and monthly columns. I especially love the focus on bettering yourself, because as a mama, I feel that ‘you’ can get lost!

You should check out Recyclebank! There’s lots of ways to earn points quickly and easily on the site (or app) and you can redeem the points for things like totally free magazine subscriptions! No strings attached, no credit card required. Real Simple is currently one of the available subscriptions. I cannot tell you how many free magazines I’ve gotten through Recyclebank over the years. I never pay for them (and I LOVE getting magazines, even if I don’t have much time to read them).

I LOVE HGTV and The Magnolia Journal magazines! I reference my HGTV magazines all the time for color and texture inspiration.

The Magnolia Journal is a newer magazine and I just love the content! I devour it, reading it from cover to cover.
