Neutral with a dash of color!

Today I’m headed to Detroit to continue searching for our next home. In case you missed the announcement, our family has moved back to Michigan! We are sad to leave our Los Angeles community, but we are very excited over the future for our growing family :)

Zack and I have made a list of dream “wants” and “needs” for our next home. On our list is oodles of natural lighting, white/neutral walls, hardwood floors, an open floor plan, three bedrooms, a garage, and a fenced-in back yard.

I love the contrast of the wood from this Mid Century Modern piece to the neutral walls. Also, big leafy plants? Gimme gimme gimme :)

Adjustable shelving in our living room would give me a variety of vignette options, because HELLO, rearranging furniture. Kinda my favorite homey thing ever. Plus, we can start the shelves so they are out of reach for little hands. There are going to be six little hands in our home come April! ;)

We have a gray couch super similar to this one shown above, and the yellow chair in the right corner reminds me of a yellow chair we already own. Fun pillows on the couch, texture mixed throughout, and lots of natural lighting. This is such an exciting time for our family! :)

We’re anticipating Max & Natalie will continue sharing a bedroom, but this time around there’ll be room for their toys. It’s fascinating to me how interested Natalie is with Maxwell’s toys. She does so well with her hand/eye coordination and climbing into Max’s toddler bed so she can “read” his books. I’m very excited to put together their bedroom. Max & Nat are so cute together.

We’ve been in Michigan for a little over two weeks now. When we bought our airfare for Christmas time we didn’t know we’d be staying here long-term, but now knowing just how long it’s taken the kids to adjust (the time zone change, seeing so many different people, having a yard to play in (thank goodness for toddler door locks!) and putting on winter coats & boots), I’m so relieved we’re staying longer :) They are just now adjusting, and it’s been a little tiring… Maybe I should try going to bed earlier? (But staying up late is just sooo fun!)

It feels a bit surreal when I sit back and take in all that we have going on right now. We’ve made huge progress just with getting to Michigan, but now that Zack’s back in Los Angeles and I’m tackling “find a new home”, it’s settling in fast. WE’RE SO EXCITED ABOUT OUR MOVE! I’m also meeting my new OB this afternoon. Did I mention we have a lot going on right now? ;)

PS. if you’re in the Detroit area and would be interested in a meet-up next month, send me an email or leave a comment below! I’d love to meet you!!!

    Hey Girlfriend! Yes let’s meet up! I live in New Boston, a small village, 5 minutes from Detroit Metro Airport.

    I have a pretty flexible schedule. I clean houses and run my handmade biz. So I’m able to drive a distance if necessary.

    I wish I lived closer so we could meet up for a coffee, but I’m an hour north of Chicago in the Lake Geneva, WI area.

    Maggie! Will be praying for you all in your transition. I grew up in Flint, so am pretty familiar with that area. Do your folks live nearby? When we lived in Boyne, even having a 3.5 hour drive from my mom was so nice (which I know is roughly what you’ll have to the Whitley’s). Just bursting with happiness for you all! So fun to follow along. XO

      My parents are in Grand Rapids, so very very close (compared to LA :)) Would love your prayers… there is definitely a lot to stay on top of this month! You’re amazing. Thank you Laura! xoxo

    I’m located in Plymouth, near Ann Arbor, and I would be happy to meet up for coffee if you are looking to get to know new people! I have been thinking about getting a group of local ladies together in the metro Detroit area who might also be interested in sewing, sort of a get together and bring your sewing machines and work on whatever project interests you, like a book club or wine of the month club but for sewing (I may want to bring wine too)! Not sure how to go about setting it up, but perhaps something for the near future!

    I stumbled on your blog today via “8 tips to help you thrive as a mama.” Who doesn’t need that! Well, then I kept reading and saw that you are moving to Detroit. My family is also relocating to Detroit! We are moving in April. We are checking out different neighborhoods now…not sure where we will end up. Like you, I have a baby on the way (for me it is baby #2). I would love to meet up or join a book club if you decide to start one in the Detroit area. (;
