ohhhhhhhhh, it’s time for saturday’s update! but i’m in trouble ~ i had pop yesterday :{ oh no, oh no! zack’s cousin is in town from michigan so we were at the mall of america yesterday. and i had pop in the food court. [bites nails.] isn’t that pitiful?! i didn’t enjoy the taste of it, but i didn’t hate it, either. ohhhhhhhh. i’m bad.

moving on… today i also straightened my hair, but this time i used a big barrel curling iron to round off the edges. i think this was my favorite hair day, although i did love day 1. when my hair is wet i can make it look super straight. then it starts to dry, so i use my blowdryer to finish it, and it becomes a poofy wavy mess. [taps fingers on counter.] seeing it straighter really intensifies the fact that there are a lot of layers in there. my hair is cut specifically so it can be worn wavy/curly, so i’m not sure if the straight look is really working for me? i’m also noticing that because of this my hair can look one way in the morning and a totally different way in the evening.

for breakfast i had strawberries and honey bunches of oats with peaches, plus coffee. for lunch i had a grilled chicken sandwich + fries, and for dinner i had grilled chicken, bell peppers and potatoes. breakfast & dinner were especially Y U M M Y, so i’m taking that as a sign that healthier eating really is tastier! for a snack i had almonds & mango slices. i’ve been drinking more water and am starting to think i need to take away the vino & beer.

bedtime has been good and i’m still getting enough sleep. weekends are throwing my times off, but i think that’s OK. always going to bed at the same time every day doesn’t seem reasonable/possible, but going to bed relaxed and getting enough sleep does. so i’m going to focus on that part :]

so my last challenge is the photo part. fun! i snapped this pic while at the mall of america, while inside urban outfitters. don’t you just love the striped ruffle pillow? it’s so darling in person. yes oh yes.

ok, so my question for you:
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE THING ABOUT THE CHANGES YOU’VE MADE?

I think your hair looks good straight too. I cut out soda and went back to it, only I’m not drinking as much of it. I went from pretty much only soda to some and some water and then none. Now I’m at maybe a glass a day if that and mainly water. I honestly haven’t noticed a difference except I don’t get a headache when I haven’t had any in a while.
Love that picture from the mall. I would love to visit Mall of America someday. I am from Michigan too, I get a little excited when it’s mentioned in a blog haha.

I gave up my morning coffe ive been drinking for the past 4 years, that I thought I HAD to have to feel “awake” in the mornings… Instead I’ve replaced it with water and I feel just as energized, if not more now!!!

I’ve given up the pop & it was painless. Can’t hardly get myself to drink water, so finding ways to ‘trick’ myself into drinking it is my challenge.
I quit working for a local artist and discovered the added work for her was what was cutting into my sleeping time. Enjoying getting to bed at a more normal/healthier hour now…………and love it! Amazing what sleep will do for a person!
And, now that it is summer (although, not much of one here in the Seattle area) I’m eating from our garden more. Love to have things that are that fresh on the table!

Love your blog, and your tweets!

I’ve been avoiding pop along with you:) thanks for the motivation!! we watched the documentary “food matters” on streaming netflix…and, whoa, seriously check it out if you need some motivation to keep finding ways to eat healthy – even my hubs ended up watching it all with me and is excited to be filling up with better nutrients!

I gave up soft drinks for Lent and didn’t miss them at all, but once I started back. Oh.my. Caffeine free Diet Mountain Dew is my favorite. We mainly call soft drinks “Coke” around these parts. I always get a kick out of hearing them called soda or pop.

I’ve been running at 6 in the morning. It feels great, but I’ve found myself getting extremely tired and sleepy in the middle of the day. Hmmm. It’s too hot and humid with a thunderstorm every afternoon to even think about running any other time. I’m ready for fall…as soon as our beach trip is over!

So you are apparently one of those that can wear your hair curly or straight and it looks super cute. No fair!

Baby steps…you’re doing great! I started walking/running my dogs last week, they were lovin’ it, I was lovin’ it, but now I just found a flea on one of them, and I’m blaming it on the walks. She’s been scratching like mad only since we’ve started them :-(. So now I need a NEW exercise inspiration! Any ideas? Love your hair straight. Very cute! Happy Sunday afternoon…oh, and I hope you’ve checked out my infused water article by now…it will change the way you feel about drinking it. Promise!

    Love this challenge.

So Friday I was so stinkin’ proud of myself because I went to the supermarket and walked BY the doughnuts without buying one. Yay!

Yesterday I had pop too. My mom bought it for me while we were out garage sale-ing and it was yummy, but I definitely have found myself craving water….so that’s a good sign i guess. Today we celebrated my son’s birthday so there was a good amount of SUGAR{!!!!!} but I tried to load up on more fruit and veggies while keeping the sugar to a minimum :-)

that IS awesome — nice job! i suppose if you think of pop as a treat, instead of a daily occurrence, having it isn’t so bad. XOXO

I found a chart on Pinterest that lists cravings and what you’re body really needs with a healthier alternative. I noticed soda is on there ;)

The original website wouldn’t show up or I would have use it.

Hi Maggie, Congrats on your personal challenge! You are always so inspiring and uplifting, I love visiting your blog! :) We had to make a bunch of diet changes for my daughter this past winter and I was reading about sugar and speficially processed sugar (like what you find in pop). In women/girls, high fructose corn syrup turns into fat and settles right in the tummy area. That’s why many of us have that little pooch we just can’t get rid of. Who knew!! I’ve been limiting how much pop I drink (oh my, sooooo stinkin’ hard, I swear I was a fountain coke addict) and it’s amazing how much better I feel when I don’t have it. Best wishes with the personal challenge!!

yep — that’s enough to get me to seriously cut back! i’ve always considered having pop at home a treat, but when we go out to eat {which is a lot}, i always get a Coke. plus a few refills.

      that’s stopped!

Wow your hair is super cute!! I think it’s good to switch it up. Its nice your hair is naturally curly so you can straighten it when u feel like it. I have super straight hair and it wont hold a curl :(
Also, I noticed on your Press page in your shop you have celebrities buying your products now, how awesome! Which products are they rocking?

your hair looks so cute straight! one thing that might help you get it to curl without the iron, or even change up the look a bit more is to use a different brush… my sister straightens her hair and when she switched to a ceramic core brush with boar bristles it was so much easier to do!

I think you’re doing great with your challenge! I love seeing all your different hair styles!

You’re really going to feel soooo much better with healthy eating & drinking more water. I never used to like water, but over the past few years, I’ve found super dehydrated & tired without it. Healthy eating will do wonders, too. But cut the wine & beer? LET’S NOT DO ANYTHING DRASTIC HERE!!!
